Making Florida the legal home base for mobile Americans
We help Americans abroad, full-time RVers, remote workers, and people leaving California, New York, and other high-tax states make Florida their legal home: a real address, airtight paperwork, 0% state income tax. Built by founders with accounting and finance backgrounds who lived the problem first.
We met at Money20/20 Europe: one of us living the expat problem from the inside, the other from a family of accountants and CPAs. The advice traded that week became a one-day Florida domicile playbook, and the playbook became Your Tax Base.
What began with the two of us is now a team of six, handling the paperwork, compliance, and mail so our customers don’t have to.
“Your life is mobile. Your Tax Base should be, too.”
Co-Founder & CEO
Justin Malone
Engineered his own one-day California exit, then turned the playbook into a service.
Justin was raised in California and has spent the last five years living abroad, working from nearly every continent. Like most Americans overseas, he ran into the same wall again and again: he had left the United States, but the United States had not left him. California still considered him a resident, the IRS still expected filings, and banks still demanded a US address.
With a background in accounting, he engineered his exit before boarding the plane. He landed at Tampa International in the morning with two suitcases. Thirty minutes at the DMV got him a Florida license, his Declaration of Domicile was filed and his voter registration completed the same day, and by 6 pm he was wheels-up out of Orlando, having cut the ties his former state uses to keep a claim on people who leave.
Runs operations and compliance, and turns bureaucratic chaos into one clean checklist.
Brett studied accounting and finance and grew up working in and around his family’s accounting firms, where tax season is the family business. What stuck with him was less the numbers than the mess: the tangle of forms, agencies, and deadlines that leaves most people stuck. He is at his best turning that chaos into a clean, repeatable checklist.
A couple of years living in Asia put him in the middle of the expat community and its recurring problems: filing US taxes from abroad, keeping US bank accounts alive, and mail that never stops arriving. He met Justin at Money20/20 Europe, shared the advice that was obvious from inside an accounting family, and together they turned Justin’s one-day domicile playbook into Your Tax Base.
Not a template. A staffed service run by the two people who figured this out for themselves first.
What we’ve done
We were our own first customers, and we turned everything we learned into a single dashboard. Instead of hunting down a residential address, the right forms, a notary, and a separate mail service, then figuring out how to do each one, it is all in one place with precise, easy-to-follow steps. About 15 minutes of your time, an online notary built right in, and our staff handling the rest.
Who we’ve helped
Millions of Americans live abroad or fully mobile without a fixed US address, and still need a bank, a driver’s license, and their mail like everyone else. We have helped Americans abroad, retirees, remote workers, full-time RVers and nomads, liveaboard boaters, and founders and business owners make Florida their home base.
The result: a genuine residential US address of the kind banks and the DMV require, so citizens living abroad or on the road are not left without banking or a license; a reliable way to receive mail from anywhere; and real state-tax savings for people who moved on from California, New York, or another high-tax state. Built to be audit-defensible, with the paperwork off your plate.
A step-by-step dashboard for your license, voter registration, and the single DMV visit
Ongoing compliance monitoring as state rules change
What we don’t
We are not a law firm, CPA firm, or government agency
We don’t give individual tax or legal advice, and we don’t file your tax returns (we can point you to CPA partners for that)
We can’t guarantee an outcome. Banks, the DMV, and tax authorities decide what they accept; our job is to give you the strongest, best-documented case
How our guidance is developed
Researched from the source, reviewed by people who know it
Our dashboard steps and our written guides are built from primary sources: Florida Statutes such as §222.17 (Declaration of Domicile) and §322.031 (residency for licensing), IRS guidance, and state Department of Revenue advisements. Every guide is researched against those originals and reviewed by our founders, who have accounting and finance backgrounds, alongside CPA partners who specialize in multi-state situations. We keep it current as states change their rules, and we never make a guarantee a licensed professional wouldn’t.
Your documents and personal information are protected with bank-level encryption, and we never sell your data.

“We hit the road last spring and the hardest part was figuring out a legal home base.
Florida ticked every box and the registration and license went through at the DMV with no drama. We handle all our mail from the dashboard while parked at a campground. Could not be happier with how simple they made it.

“Living in France and maintaining my US financial ties seemed impossible.
I found this service to be exactly what I needed. Chase, Fidelity, CapitalOne all merged to their addresses without a problem. I even had a lot of questions and the time zone differences are a bit tricky but with them I didn't even notice it. All of my questions were answered promptly and very clearly. They even handled the notarization online so I didn't have to be in the country at all to even get established. This was excellent. Thank you guys I mean it truly it helps me financially so much.

“Your Tax Base has figured out the best way to become a Florida resident.
I used to be in North Carolina and now, two hours after signing up, I'm officially Florida domiciled. Great job. Being overseas, having every step documented in the dashboard was huge. Online notary worked first try. Thanks again for what you guys do.

“I had a video call with one of their advisors who walked me through the whole flow.
As a foreigner with a long list of questions about US tax exposure, the patience was much appreciated. Thank you.

“I left to teach overseas in 2018 telling myself it was for two years.
Eight years later a bank back home decided the address on file wasnt good enough and half froze my account until I could prove I lived somewhere real in the States, which I dont, not really. Found this looking for any fix and honestly expected another thing that half works. It didnt half work. Got a proper Florida address, did the notary over video one evening my time which was the middle of their afternoon, and sent the bank exactly what they asked for. Took me longer to dig out my passport for the ID step than to do the actual signing. The scanned mail turned out to be the sleeper feature, I see letters the day they land now instead of never. No state tax there either, though that was honestly never my problem.

“YourTaxBase made it extremely easy to transfer everything: the address, the driver's license, all the residency pieces.
Highly recommend. Best deal I've come across for this situation. Thanks for being in business.

“YourTaxBase was very easy, manageable, bit by bit on what's normally a long and complicated process.
My previous residence was California. Looking forward to saving more with zero percent state tax.

“New York does not let go quietly.
They gave me the address and the exact transition checklist so my move would actually hold up. Notary was effortless. That is a real chunk of money staying with me now instead of going to the state.

“Moving from New York to Florida was seamless.
Everything from the address setup to the post-onboarding checklist was perfectly organized. The process was smooth, great value, and I'm now saving a substantial amount on state taxes. Highly recommend.

“We are moving to Portugal in the fall and wanted our US affairs settled before we go.
The team was patient with our questions and never once made us feel rushed. We now have a real address for the brokerage and Social Security, and the Massachusetts tax we were tired of paying is behind us. Grateful this exists.

“One of the few services that made changing domicile genuinely simple.
The portal was clear, the notary integration was seamless, and the team was super responsive. I switched from Arizona and saved meaningfully on taxes, all with clear guidance and no stress. Highly recommend.

Absolutely. Establishing Florida as your legal domicile is completely legal when done properly. Florida has no minimum day requirement for residency. What matters is your intent to make Florida your permanent home and proper documentation of that intent. We help you build a clear paper trail through legitimate means: a real residential address, Declaration of Domicile, updated identification, and ongoing documentation.
