Florida Virtual Mailbox and Mail Forwarding for Americans Abroad
Stop losing US mail while you live abroad. A real residential street address in Florida. Envelope scans within 24 hours. Worldwide forwarding when you need paper in hand.
The IRS, your bank, your broker and the DMV still expect a US address on file. When it goes silent, the damage lands in three predictable places.
Banks close expat accounts
Every US bank runs a CIP identity check that expects a residential address. A foreign address often fails it, and a CMRA suffix is a commercial classification. Wells Fargo, Bank of America and Capital One have closed expat accounts on this basis. Each bank sets its own policy.
IRS deadlines do not wait
A CP2000 notice gives you 30 days to respond. International forwarding can eat 3 to 6 weeks of that window. Miss it and a routine notice turns into a default assessment.
No address, forced withholding
Brokerages move foreign-address accounts onto the W-8BEN track. That can mean up to 30 percent withholding on dividends and blocked mutual fund purchases at firms like Vanguard and Fidelity.
What is a Florida virtual mailbox?
A Florida virtual mailbox is a real residential street address in Florida that receives your US mail, scans every envelope to a private online dashboard, and forwards physical items anywhere in the world on request. You authorize it once with USPS Form 1583, then read, hold, forward or shred each piece from your phone. Because the address is residential, it also anchors Florida domicile for banking, taxes and state paperwork.
Mail scanning and worldwide mail forwarding
Scanning and forwarding solve different problems. A scan gets you the contents within 24 hours: read the IRS notice today, decide later. Mail forwarding moves the physical piece to you: the new debit card, the checkbook, the original document a consulate wants to see. Old-style mail forwarding services only re-ship unopened envelopes, so every decision costs postage and a week of waiting. With a virtual mailbox you scan first and forward only what has to travel, on your choice of courier.
USPS Form 1583
The official "Application for Delivery of Mail Through Agent" (USPS DMM 508.1.8). We notarize it online from any country, no US visit required.
Worldwide mail forwarding
Physical forwarding to 41 countries with FedEx, UPS and USPS options, plus same-day scans when you only need to read it.
Online notarization
Remote online notarization is legally recognized in over 40 US states, including Florida, where your address and documents live.
Government and financial mail
A stable US street address for IRS notices, Social Security and Medicare correspondence, bank statements and brokerage tax forms.
Works with expat tax rules
Keeping a US mailing address does not break the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion 330-day physical presence test or the Foreign Tax Credit. Your mail lives in Florida; you live wherever you want.
Using the mailbox to become a Florida resident on paper too? Florida Residency for Expats walks through the domicile side: the Declaration of Domicile, the license swap and the order to do it in.

Tax stacking
Pair it with FEIE and keep the state layer at zero
The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (IRC §911) lets qualifying Americans abroad exclude $132,900 of foreign earned income from federal tax in 2026, a figure indexed each year. You qualify through the Physical Presence Test or the Bona Fide Residence Test.
FEIE only touches the federal layer. States like California and New York keep taxing former residents who never formally severed domicile, and they do not recognize FEIE. Florida domicile closes that door: a Florida residential address, a Florida driver license, and a Declaration of Domicile sever the old state tie cleanly.
A freelancer earning $150,000 abroad excludes $132,900 under FEIE and Florida adds zero state tax on the full amount. The same person still domiciled in California hands over roughly $9,700 in state tax (single filer, 2026 schedules) that FEIE never shields. The address is what makes the state-side savings stick under audit.
Single filer estimate from your state's 2026 income tax rate schedule after its standard deduction, before credits (California uses the latest published 2025-indexed brackets). State income tax only, less $660 annual YourTaxBase plan cost. Estimate only, not tax advice.

“I did my due diligence before signing up, and the service delivered what it promised.
The document checklist was clear, the team answered specific questions like real people instead of reading from a script, and I completed my setup in six days. The process was organized, practical, and refreshingly straightforward.

“Very easy process.
I'm living in London with my partner and have been using the service for about a month. The only downside has been a delay in getting mail notifications and scans for some of my requests. It may be that my account is new and they're still tuning things for me. Otherwise so far so good and I'd recommend.

“YourTaxBase made it extremely easy to transfer everything: the address, the driver's license, all the residency pieces.
Highly recommend. Best deal I've come across for this situation. Thanks for being in business.

“We completed the setup while living in Spain, and the video onboarding walked us through each step clearly.
The team was patient, the process was manageable from abroad, and having important mail scanned gives us one less administrative task to worry about in retirement.

“Your Tax Base has figured out the best way to become a Florida resident.
I used to be in North Carolina and now, two hours after signing up, I'm officially Florida domiciled. Great job. Being overseas, having every step documented in the dashboard was huge. Online notary worked first try. Thanks again for what you guys do.

“I have been putting off moving my domicile for so long because of the unknowns.
After all of my research it was a no brainer to go with this company. I have felt as if I was a part of a group with how the concierge helped with all of my questions. We even completed everything remotely from our Dell. This is very impressive.

“Moving abroad while leaving California created a lot of administrative work.
Your Tax Base gave me a dependable Florida home base, and the dashboard makes it effortless to review scanned documents from anywhere. The service has kept my mail and domicile records organized.

“One of the few services that made changing domicile genuinely simple.
The portal was clear, the notary integration was seamless, and the team was super responsive. I switched from Arizona and saved meaningfully on taxes, all with clear guidance and no stress. Highly recommend.

“I've lived in Panama for almost three years and had been using a friend's address back in the States, which always felt like borrowed time.
After comparing my options I went with Your Tax Base. I spoke with one of the team members on a video call a couple of months ago, took my time thinking it through, and finally did the full onboarding this morning. About fifty minutes start to finish. For anyone abroad who needs a real US address, especially with Florida's tax setup, I strongly recommend it. Looking forward to finishing the Florida driver's license piece.

“I'm a freelance designer about to move abroad for all of 2026 and I'd heard about Florida domicile through other digital nomads.
I did a lot of research and couldn't find a better fit than Your Tax Base. There are a few solutions out there, but this one made the most sense, walking me through every step and connecting me straight into the notary service. It was painless, and a process I'd dreaded ended up being genuinely pleasant. Saved me so much time. Thank you.

“Amazing service.
The dashboard prepped my Florida license paperwork and voter registration card so cleanly that I cleared the DMV in one trip. Coming from Illinois, everything was streamlined. The team was super patient with all my questions.

“As a digital nomad from California I used to pay five figures in state taxes.
Switching to Florida through Your Tax Base took just minutes. Forms, address, domicile, all handled. Great service, fast support, huge money saver.

“Setting up my Florida home base gave me a consistent street address and a much better way to manage physical mail.
Being able to preview and manage correspondence from my laptop in Medellín has been seamless.

“Heads up that the USPS Form 1583 step needs an online notary, which costs extra.
Nobody mentioned that in earlier reviews. Previous state is Illinois and the state has been aggressive about full residency, even though I work and spend over 200 days in another country each year. Not yet sure whether this Florida domicile move will resolve that history, but the onboarding has been solid and the team is helping me build the documentary record. Will come back with an update.

As a foreigner with a long list of questions about US tax exposure, the patience was much appreciated. Thank you.

“Moving from New York to Florida was seamless.
Everything from the address setup to the post-onboarding checklist was perfectly organized. The process was smooth, great value, and I'm now saving a substantial amount on state taxes. Highly recommend.

“The whole process was incredibly easy.
Clear videos, FAQs, and step-by-step guides. We switched from Washington and had our Florida driver's licenses within days. Great experience.

“After my wife passed I decided to simplify everything.
Sold the house in Maine, spend most of my time near my daughter in Florida now, but all my accounts and taxes were still tangled up in Maine. I was dreading sorting it out. The gentlemen I spoke with was very patient with all my questions, and trust me I had a lot of them. Never made me feel like a burden. It took about two weeks and they checked in with me at each step so I always knew where things stood.
At this point in my life I appreciate a company that just does what it says it will. This one does.

Setup was straightforward, support was reliable, and managing correspondence from abroad has been easy.

“Your Tax Base made our move from California to Florida painless.
Since heading overseas, the permanent- and mailing-address setup has been easy to manage, mail handling has been smooth, and the staff has remained responsive. I would recommend the service to anyone considering a similar move.

“I just registered on Your Tax Base and everything is clear.
I'm happy to work with them. I'm curious how I'll find the address pin when I show up in person, but the onboarding flow already answered most of my questions. Thank you.

Questions
Florida Virtual Mailbox FAQ for Expats
The ten questions Americans abroad ask before signing up.
Most US banks require a domestic residential address that is not a PO Box and not a CMRA. Because we provide a true Florida residential address (not a commercial mailbox or PO Box), it is generally accepted for Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Know Your Customer (KYC) purposes. Bank policies vary, so always confirm with your specific institution. Banks like Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, and Bank of America typically accept residential addresses; some smaller banks may flag any third-party mail receiver, in which case a Florida driver license tied to the same address resolves the issue.
Yes. USPS regulations require a notarized Form 1583 before any commercial mail receiving agent can accept mail on your behalf. Living outside the US does not waive this. We support online notarization (Remote Online Notarization, RON) through Proof.com, which lets you complete the form from any country with a webcam, two pieces of identification, and an internet connection. You do not need to find a US embassy notary or visit a foreign notary public.
FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) does not require a US residential address by itself. It asks for your current mailing address as part of the BSA E-Filing System submission. You can use your Florida virtual mailbox address as your FBAR mailing address, and many expats prefer this because it keeps a stable US contact point on record with FinCEN even when they relocate frequently. FBAR is filed separately from your tax return and is due April 15 with an automatic extension to October 15.
Yes. The IRS will mail correspondence (CP2000 notices, refund checks, audit letters, transcript requests) to whatever address is on file for you. To direct IRS mail to your Florida address, file Form 8822 (Change of Address) or update the address on your next Form 1040. Because we scan envelopes within 24 hours of receipt, you will see IRS correspondence in your dashboard the same day it arrives, which is materially faster than international forwarding.
A UPS Store, FedEx Ship Center, or any address that requires a PMB (Private Mailbox) suffix is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) under USPS DMM 508. Many banks and the DMV set their own rules about which address types they will take, and commercial mail-receiving addresses are frequently excluded. Ours is a Florida residential street address rather than a commercial mail-receiving agency. The practical difference: a UPS Store keeps your packages safe, but a residential address is the type most banks and the Florida DMV ask for. Each institution and agency decides what it accepts.
Yes. Form 8822 is the IRS Change of Address form, and your Florida virtual mailbox address is a valid US mailing address for this purpose. Many expats file 8822 once their virtual mailbox is active so that all future IRS correspondence routes to a single, stable, scannable address rather than to a foreign address that may take weeks to reach them.
FATCA itself is a reporting framework that affects foreign financial institutions and US persons holding foreign accounts. A US address does not exempt you from FATCA reporting (Form 8938 if thresholds are met). However, having a stable US residential address often helps you keep US-based brokerage and bank accounts open, which in turn keeps your FATCA reporting straightforward. Without a US address, some institutions close US-person accounts, forcing you into foreign accounts that themselves trigger FATCA disclosures.
Yes, on our Premium tier. The address provided is a real Florida residential address, which is what the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) requires for a Florida driver license, and what the supervisor of elections requires for voter registration. Establishing Florida domicile also requires filing a Declaration of Domicile, documenting your move from your prior state, and updating your federal Form 1040 address. We guide you through all of this. See our Florida residency for expats page for the full process.
Envelope exteriors are scanned within 24 hours of arrival, usually faster. Contents stay sealed unless you request a content scan. Opening only ever happens with your consent, every request is logged, and the scan appears in the same dashboard as the envelope image.
Forwarding ships at the actual carrier rate for the speed you pick across FedEx, UPS and USPS options, and you approve the cost before anything ships. Plans bill annually and you can cancel anytime from your dashboard.
Information is for educational purposes only and is not tax, legal, or financial advice. FEIE eligibility and state domicile outcomes vary by individual circumstance. Consult a qualified tax professional.
Stop missing US mail. Your Florida address is ready.
